Qualities of a Good Citizen in the Light of Islamic Teachings

Abstract

Islam is a complete code of life that provides comprehensive guidance for all individual and collective aspects of human existence, ensuring success in both this world and the Hereafter. An Islamic society is founded upon the Qur’an and the Sunnah, which present clear concepts of good and evil and play a vital role in the moral and social development of individuals. Islam refines human character by making individuals aware of the consequences of their actions, enabling them to adopt righteousness and avoid wrongdoing. In the light of Islamic teachings, a good citizen aligns his beliefs, acts of worship, and social dealings with Islamic principles. This study identifies the foundational principle of Tawhid, which cultivates a sense of responsibility and accountability. Furthermore, justice, compassion, empathy, and moral excellence contribute to social harmony. In addition, values such as brotherhood, cooperation, and goodwill serve as the basis for establishing a cohesive and peaceful society. This research adopts an analytical and descriptive methodology, drawing upon primary sources from the Qur’an and Hadith along with historical examples. The findings indicate that an individual who embodies Islamic principles becomes an ideal citizen who contributes to social welfare, stability and the development of a balanced and just society.
